Official competition terms

Anthropic and Adaptyv are independent entities and are not partners, joint venturers, or agents of one another for purposes of the Competition. Each Sponsor is responsible only for its own obligations under these Terms. Adaptyv is solely responsible for hosting the Competition on Proteinbase, administering registration, validating targets and assays, conducting or arranging wet-lab expression and experimental characterization, and publishing results. The Sponsors will jointly determine design submission requirements and the selection of designs for wet-lab testing, as further described in Section 2. Anthropic is solely responsible for the Anthropic Support Terms in Exhibit A governing the provision of Claude API credits and/or Claude subscriptions to eligible Participants. Neither Sponsor is responsible or liable for the acts, omissions, or independent obligations of the other Sponsor.

1.1 Third-Party Providers.

Twist Bioscience may provide DNA synthesis services, and Modal may provide compute credits, in each case pursuant to separate arrangements between that provider and one or both Sponsors. Neither Twist Bioscience nor Modal is a Sponsor, and neither undertakes any obligation to Participants under these Terms. Any credits, services, or materials a third-party provider makes available in connection with the Competition are subject to that provider's own terms, and are provided, if at all, subject to that provider's availability and capacity.

By registering for and/or participating in the Competition, you agree to be bound by the decisions of the Sponsors. Adaptyv will make all decisions relating to target and assay validation and publication of results, in its sole discretion. The Sponsors will jointly make all decisions relating to design submission requirements and the selection of designs for wet-lab testing. Anthropic will make all decisions relating to eligibility for, and the award of, Support, in its sole discretion. All such decisions are final and binding in all respects.

3.1 General Eligibility (All Tracks).

The Competition is open to any individual or team, regardless of academic or commercial affiliation, provided that:

• if an individual, they are at least 18 years of age, or the age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence, if greater;
• they are not a legal resident of, and if an entity are not domiciled in, Belarus, China, Cuba, Iran, Myanmar, North Korea, Russia, Sudan, Syria, Crimea, or the so-called Donetsk People's Republic or Luhansk People's Republic; and
• they are not a person or entity prohibited from participating in the Competition or receiving funds, credits, or services under U.S. or other applicable export control, sanctions, or similar laws.

If you are applying on behalf of, or as a representative of, an institution or company, the representations in this Section 3.1 are made to the best of your knowledge based on that institution's or company's own compliance policies.

3.2 Eligibility for Anthropic Support (Track 1 / Track 2).

Participants seeking Support must additionally satisfy the eligibility criteria set out in Exhibit A.

3.3 Representations.

You represent and warrant that:

1. you have obtained all consents necessary from any employer, institution, or team member to participate in the Competition;
2. your submission is your original work, or you otherwise hold all rights necessary to submit it;
3. your participation, and your compliance with these Terms, will not violate any law, regulation, or third-party right; and
4. if your registration will result in Support being placed into an account of an institution or company, or otherwise purports to bind an institution or company, you have authority to accept these Terms and, if applicable, the Support Terms in Exhibit A, on that institution's or company's behalf, or your acceptance is otherwise sufficient under that institution's or company's own policies.

To participate, you must complete the joint registration form hosted on Proteinbase at https://proteinbase.com/competitions/anthropic-adaptyv-2026, which incorporates both these Terms and Adaptyv's applicable Proteinbase terms. Participants who wish to be considered for Support must additionally indicate that request on the form and agree to the Anthropic Support Terms in Exhibit A.

5.1 Tracks.

The Competition will be organized into the following tracks:

• Track 1: approximately 20 teams selected from academia and industry. Track 1 applicants must be a lab or company with significant expertise and/or publications in the protein design space — for example, prior AI-designed protein design work — and must include experts in designing proteins for at least one of the Competition's problem areas. Track 1 participants may be eligible to receive Support of up to $25,000 (industry) or $50,000 (academic) in Claude credits, and may also receive Modal compute credits, subject to Modal's own terms, subject to the terms in Exhibit A.
• Track 2: individual researchers or small teams (up to three researchers) actively affiliated with an institution or company, who apply for Support. Track 2 participants may be eligible to receive Support consisting of complimentary access to a Claude Max 20x subscription for the duration of the Competition, subject to the terms in Exhibit A and may also receive Modal compute credits, subject to Modal's own terms.
• Track 3: administered by Adaptyv and open to any Participant that is not in Track 1 or Track 2.

Only Track 1 and Track 2 Participants are eligible for Support, as described in Exhibit A.

5.2 Problems and Targets.

The problems and targets for the Competition will be as set forth on the Competition Page hosted on Proteinbase at https://proteinbase.com/competitions/anthropic-adaptyv-2026 (the "Competition Page"), as may be updated by the Sponsors from time to time. The Competition Page is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

5.3 Timeline.

The Competition is expected to proceed on the following schedule, subject to change by the Sponsors: applications open, September 16, 2026; applications close, September 24, 2026; Support communicated to recipients, before September 28, 2026; competition begins, September 28, 2026; final design submission deadline, October 31, 2026; experimental validation, November 30, 2026; results published, December 15, 2026. During the competition, problems will be released approximately weekly, and deadlines for submitting designs for each problem will be communicated.

5.4 Submission and Review.

Participants will submit designs through Proteinbase in accordance with the requirements published on the Competition Page for each problem. The Sponsors will jointly determine the process for selecting designs for wet-lab synthesis and testing, which will be published on the Competition Page. Except as the Sponsors may otherwise determine, the number of designs tested per team or problem is expected to be:

• Track 1: up to approximately 18 designs tested per problem per team, summing to up to one 384-well plate (including controls) of designs per problem;
• Track 2: designs considered for validation at Anthropic and Adaptyv’s discretion using a pre-defined and jointly agreed upon Claude-based workflow for selecting designs, without guaranteed allocation, summing up to one 384-well plate (including controls) of designs per problem; and
• Track 3: designs considered for validation at Anthropic and Adaptyv’s discretion using a pre-defined and jointly agreed upon Claude-based workflow for selecting designs, without guaranteed allocation, summing up to one 384-well plate (including controls) of designs per problem.

5.5 Biosecurity Screening.

Every design submitted for wet-lab synthesis will be screened for biosecurity risk before DNA synthesis, consistent with standard screening protocols used by Adaptyv and/or its DNA synthesis providers. The Sponsors may reject or disqualify any submission that raises a biosecurity concern, in their sole discretion, and neither Sponsor is obligated to explain the basis for any such rejection.

5.6 No Guarantee of Testing or Outcome.

Submission of a design does not guarantee that it will be selected for wet-lab testing, and testing does not guarantee any particular result. The Sponsors do not guarantee that any Participant will receive Support or a favorable outcome.

Adaptyv will publish all wet-lab results for tested designs on Proteinbase, including sequence, predicted structure, design method, and experimental measurements, whether or not a given design worked, consistent with Adaptyv's standard practice for its competitions. Adaptyv makes Proteinbase available to the public under the Open Data Commons Attribution License (ODC-BY). By submitting a design, Participant consents to the Sponsors publishing the design, any associated data Participant submits, and the experimental results for that design (together, "Published Materials") as part of the Competition results, and to Adaptyv making the Published Materials available to the public as part of Proteinbase under ODC-BY. Participant agrees that the Published Materials are not Participant's confidential information, and, to the extent Participant has any intellectual property rights in them, grants the Sponsors a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, and irrevocable license for those purposes. The Sponsors will identify Participant in connection with the Published Materials only as described in Section 8. Nothing in this section limits Participant's, or Participant's employing institution's, ability to independently use, patent, license, or commercialize the design; however publication may affect patentability, and Participant is responsible for making any patent filings before submitting a design.

The Competition does not award a cash prize to Participants. Recognition of top-performing designs is limited to publication of results under Section 6 and any related publicity described in Section 8.

8.1 Competition Results.

By participating in the Competition, each Participant consents to the Sponsors identifying that Participant by name and team name on Proteinbase (including the Competition Page) as part of the Published Materials.

8.2 Other Publicity.

The Sponsors will identify a Participant by name or team name in any advertising, promotional, or other publicity materials relating to the Competition (for example, blog posts, press releases, or social media posts) only if that Participant has given permission for that use, which may be given on the registration form or by email.

8.3 Design Names.

Design names are published as submitted, so Participants should only include identifying information in design names if they are comfortable with the design name being shared.

8.4 Institutional Names and Marks.

Use of a Participant's institution's or company's name, seal, logo, or other trademark requires that institution's or company's own consent, which the Participant is responsible for obtaining. This Section 8 does not itself grant the Sponsors any right to use institutional or company names or marks.

Except for information published as part of the Competition results under Section 6, any non-public information a Sponsor shares with Participants in connection with the Competition (for example, unpublished target or assay details prior to launch) is confidential and may be used solely to participate in the Competition. This Section does not require a Participant to withhold information it is required to disclose under applicable law, including state public-records laws, provided the Participant gives the Sponsors reasonable notice where legally permitted before disclosure.

Anthropic's use of any Inputs and Outputs generated using Claude in connection with Support is governed by the Terms of Service applicable to the account to which the Support was provided. The Sponsors may conduct and publish anonymized, aggregated research and analysis regarding Track 1, Track 2 and Track 3 Competition outcomes, including comparisons between designs generated with and without Claude assistance.

The Sponsors reserve the right, acting jointly, to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the Competition, including any track, problem, target, or timeline, in their sole discretion, including to correct any typographical, printing, computer programming, or operator errors, such as errors that erroneously award Support. You may not assert any claim, demand, or action of any kind arising from or in connection with any such cancellation, suspension, or amendment.

THE COMPETITION AND ANY SUPPORT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS." The Sponsors disclaim all warranties not expressly stated in these Terms, and do not guarantee uninterrupted access to Proteinbase or Claude, any particular experimental result, or that the Competition or Support will meet a Participant's requirements or expectations.

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, NEITHER SPONSOR WILL BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR THE COMPETITION. EACH SPONSOR'S TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR THE COMPETITION, WHETHER IN CONTRACT, TORT, OR OTHERWISE, IS LIMITED TO THE ACTUAL VALUE OF THE SUPPORT PROVIDED TO YOU BY THAT SPONSOR, OR $1,000, WHICHEVER IS LESS. THIS LIMITATION DOES NOT APPLY TO CLAIMS THAT CANNOT BE LIMITED UNDER APPLICABLE LAW.

These Terms and the Competition are governed by the laws of the State of California, excluding its conflict-of-law rules. The exclusive forum and venue for any dispute arising from these Terms or the Competition is San Francisco, California. To the extent permitted by law, you waive your right to seek injunctive relief. If a Participant is a U.S. public institution (or an individual applying on such an institution's behalf) that is prohibited by applicable state law from agreeing to the choice of law, venue, or waiver of injunctive relief in this Section, this Section applies to that Participant only to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.

These Terms, together with all documents and terms incorporated into these Terms by reference (including Exhibit A, the Competition Page, and Adaptyv's applicable Proteinbase terms), are the Sponsors' and your entire agreement regarding the subject matter herein and supersede any prior or contemporaneous agreements regarding the same subject matter. These Terms are entered into solely between, and may be enforced only by, the Sponsors and you, and do not create rights in any other third party. Headings are for convenience only, and "including" and similar terms are to be construed without limitation. If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, it will be limited to the minimum extent necessary so the rest of these Terms remain in full force and effect. Waivers must be signed by the waiving party's authorized representative and cannot be implied from conduct. Except as otherwise expressly set forth in these Terms, amendments or supplements must be in writing and signed by each Sponsor's authorized representative or agreed through electronic means the relevant Sponsor provides.

These Anthropic Support Terms ("Support Terms") govern the Claude credits and/or Claude subscriptions ("Support") that Anthropic may provide to Track 1 and Track 2 Participants in the Competition. By applying for Support, you agree to be bound by these Support Terms in addition to the Competition Terms above.

Anthropic will select recipients of Support from among applicants in its sole discretion, and Support will be provided in accordance with these Support Terms.

In addition to Section 3 of the Competition Terms (including the jurisdictional requirement in Section 3.1), an applicant for Support must satisfy the following:

• Track 1: Track 1 applicants must be a lab or company with significant expertise and/or publications in the protein design space — for example, prior AI-designed protein design work — and must include experts in designing proteins for at least one of the Competition's problem areas. Applicants must apply as a team and must provide proof of institutional or company affiliation, including by using an official email address issued by that institution or company.
• Track 2: any individual researcher, or team of up to three researchers, actively affiliated with an institution or company may apply, and must provide proof of that affiliation, including by using an official email address issued by that institution or company. Track 2 applicants accept these Support Terms as part of registration, including the certification in Section 3.3(d) of the Competition Terms.
• For Track 1 and Track 2: applicants are located in, or (if applying through an institution or company) that institution or company is located in, a country or region where Claude is available for permissible use (see https://www.anthropic.com/supported-countries).

Anthropic will review applications for Support based on the applicant's or team's expertise, publication record, and the scientific novelty of the proposed approach, and will also conduct a biosecurity assessment to evaluate whether the proposed use raises concerns regarding acceleration of harmful applications. Anthropic reserves the right to disqualify any application submitted in bad faith or that raises concerns regarding compliance with these Support Terms.

Selected applicants will be notified using the email address provided at registration. If a selected applicant does not respond within five (5) business days after the first notification attempt, Anthropic may disqualify that applicant and select an alternate from among eligible applications, based on the criteria in Section A3.

• Track 1: up to $25,000 in Claude credits for industry participants, or up to $50,000 in Claude credits for academic participants. Track 1 participants may also receive Modal compute credits, subject to Modal's own terms. Limited to a maximum of 20 teams.
• Track 2: complimentary access to a Claude Max 20x subscription for the duration of the Competition. Track 2 participants may also receive Modal compute credits, subject to Modal's own terms.

Support will be placed in the account identified in the applicant's registration and may be provided in a lump sum or in installments, at Anthropic's discretion. The aggregate value of Claude credits and subscription access issued under this Exhibit A will not exceed $1,000,000 across all recipients.

Support may be used only for the recipient's Competition-related work and is subject to Anthropic's Usage Policy (https://www.anthropic.com/legal/aup) and the Terms of Service applicable to the recipient's account. Use of Claude is not required to participate in the Competition generally but is a condition of receiving Support.

Anthropic's use of Inputs and Outputs generated using Support is governed by the Terms of Service applicable to the recipient's account. Recipients agree to participate in reasonable research surveys or interviews Anthropic conducts regarding their use of Claude in the Competition, and Anthropic may publish anonymized, aggregated findings derived from that participation.

Support provided as credits or subscription access may have different tax implications than a cash prize. Recipients are solely responsible for determining whether receipt of Support creates any tax obligation in their jurisdiction. Anthropic makes no representations regarding the tax treatment of Support and will not issue tax documentation (such as a Form 1099) unless required by applicable law.

Anthropic may cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the provision of Support at any time in its sole discretion, including to correct errors that erroneously award Support.

SUPPORT IS PROVIDED "AS IS." TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ANTHROPIC WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THESE SUPPORT TERMS. ANTHROPIC'S TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THESE SUPPORT TERMS IS LIMITED TO THE ACTUAL VALUE OF SUPPORT PROVIDED TO YOU OR $1,000, WHICHEVER IS LESS, EXCEPT WHERE SUCH LIMITATION IS NOT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW.

These Support Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, with exclusive venue in San Francisco, California, as further described in Section 14 of the Competition Terms (including the public-institution carve-out in that Section).
