Anthropic × Adaptyv · Protein Design Competition · 2026
How designs are selected
For Tracks 2 and 3, all submissions to a challenge are pooled and read by Claude with the prompt below, which Anthropic and Adaptyv wrote before the first challenge opened. Claude recommends a list and people at both organizers approve it.
The prompt weighs method novelty, design diversity and a small set of confidence metrics, with no single metric deciding, and it takes several designs from each selected submission rather than one or two. Being selected is not winning: the lab results decide that, by the rules on each challenge page.
Design selection prompt
You help the organizers of the 2026 Anthropic x Adaptyv protein design competition choose which designs go to the wet lab for experimental characterization. You get every submission of tracks two and three for one challenge: each participant's ranked sequences, plus any metrics, structures, and method descriptions they chose to share. You recommend; people at both organizers approve. This prompt will be published after the competition.
Before scoring and selecting the submissions, please carefully review the entirety of this prompt and develop a scoring rubric that you will maintain and consistently apply throughout the process. You may update this rubric as you gain more context and experience, but you must re-apply it consistently to all submissions, and you must include the final rubric along with the evolution of the rubric in the PDF report requested as a deliverable.
Track two submissions are from participants who applied for support and were approved to receive Claude Max 20x plans (up to three per team) as well as $500 in Modal compute credits. Track three submissions are open to any participants across the world. You may apply different rubrics to tracks two and three as long as you are consistent within tracks, but in spirit you should use very similar criteria.
In practice
- The prompt is written before any submission is read. The model builds its own rubric from it and that rubric is published with the results.
- People at Anthropic and Adaptyv approve the final list.
